Tenby Sailing club

In Memory

It is with great sadness that I am starting this week’s article with the news of a club member that has passed away. Sally Simmonds who like her father Eric and mother Mary before her were avid sailors and stalwart members of Tenby Sailing Club. Sally who could always be seen out on the water in her yachts first off in Swan Song and then later Accolade, for a smaller lady she handled the large yachts superbly and single handed. She loved the sea and particularly liked the club as after a long day sailing, she would often be found at the end of the bar enjoying a whiskey or two.

Dinghy Racing

The club racing has now ceased until the spring, with the first race of the season will be held on the 31st March with the first cup race on the 7th April.

Junior Sailing

With the new season coming up fast we look forward to welcoming youngsters joining in our Wednesday evening sailing nights.  Although we hope most of our present young members will continue to attend, we can cater for a limited number of new comers each month but first come first served.  Minimum age 8years but older children welcome. An enrolment session will be held on Wed March 20th starting 6 pm with a second chance on Wed March 27th.

Plans for the season will be discussed. Parent/Guardians required to countersign entry forms. If there is a problem turning up on those nights or for any further information then phone Blake on 07717842713 (This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.). Actual sailing sessions will start on Wednesday April 3rd. Pleases turn up by 5pm planning to get on the water by 5.45pm.  All sessions are weather permitting but there will always be sessions onshore in their place.

Boat Lift In

The lift IN for the boats on the harbour in Tenby is Monday April 8th commencing from 0600.

Come and Try SATURDAY 11TH MAY 2019

TSC are pleased to offer an opportunity to all to try sailing in dinghies or cruisers, or just to get afloat in power boats. The day will start at 9.30 am with introductions and briefing followed by a morning session on the water. In for lunch then an afternoon session afloat in different craft to give a good idea of what sailing is like. At the end of the day there will be a de-brief in the club about 5 pm, and for those who wish to take things further an opportunity to sign up for a club course learning the basics of how to sail and race.

Food will be available lunch time and evening, and you are welcome to stay on to enjoy a spot of rehydration after sailing!

Commodores Quiz

Last year the Commodores Quiz started in January and the regular quizzers were asked what charity they wanted to raise money for. The outcome was to raise money for the Tenby Lifeboat. All year we had dedicated teams turn up and compete for the prize and bragging rights of being Tenby Sailing Clubs Quiz Champs, and all the while raising money. Last Sunday saw some representatives of the teams that took part along with the quiz master and Commodore presenting a cheque for £845 to the treasurer of Tenby Lifeboat Wyn Griffiths. The team members were then treated to a guided tour of the boat and boat house.

I would like to personally thank all that took part, from the regular teams, one off teams, the singles and the impromptu visitor winners for the month.

This year we are raising funds for a Defibrillator to be sited outside the club at the bottom of the stone steps by the big doors. Due to the location this will also have to be a heated cabinet, the defib will then be listed on the local network and will benefit the wider community and visitors alike as there will be a defib situated on the harbour.

So please come down to the next quiz tomorrow Saturday the 23rd Feb at 1930 (or after the Rugby) to have a bit of fun while raising money for our Defib. Cost of the entry to the quiz is £5 for a team of up to six people or £1 if you think you can go it alone. There will be a league running for the whole year up to the final in November you don’t have to be part of the league just come for a laugh whilst railing money. Alongside the quiz there will be a raffle, all prize donations will be gratefully received.

If anyone would like to donate to the Defib Fund please get in contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Regatta & Nationals

The club’s annual regatta will be held on Saturday the 22nd June and the round Caldey race on Sunday 23rd. There was a good turn out last year with the Tenby Sailors winning the team prize. Let’s hope they keep it on home turf this year.

This year we are hosting the 2000 National Championships from the 10th to the 16th of August. We would not be able to put on these events without the help of willing volunteers, so if you would like to help out on all or some of these dates please get in touch. There are positions both on and off the water so no sailing experience is necessary if you would like to volunteer or have any questions please do not hesitate to get in touch

The club’s website can be found at www.tenbysailingclub.org.uk  the club and details of events going on can be found on Facebook and Twitter. New members welcome; sailors, aspirant sailors and non-sailors. We are a member’s club run by volunteers who try to involve all members in a variety of activities both sailing and social.
