Club Sailing

Bright and sunny on Sunday but with a boisterous south easterly force five gusting more and a rough sea, so sailing was cancelled. Looking forward to next year, a meeting to discuss the format for next year, days for sailing, series etc is scheduled for 21st January, 7.30pm, at the club. Diarise now and come and have your say.

AGM

This took place on Saturday 26th November. A room full of members and plenty of volunteers resulted in a couple of changes on the Committee, a change of club secretary and some changes in various functions within the club. Thanks were offered to all volunteers stepping down, and all are looking forward to 2017.

Club sailing

5 dinghies contested last Sunday’s dinghy races at Tenby Sailing Club in ideal conditions. The competitors were greeted with a steady force 4 easterly wind and a playful swell which combined with blue skies provided ideal racing conditions. We were delighted to see all 3 of the club Lasers taking to the water helmed by graduates of the club youth training sessions as well as Peter Rose and Igor in a Scorpion and Jaime in his Osprey with guest crew Lucas.

The first race was won by Peter ahead of Jaime with Carwyn Owen taking a third in a closely contested race. In the second race, also closely contested, Peter again took line honours from Jaime with Harri Richards coming in third.

Race Officer Alistair Mackay set triangular courses which tested the spinnaker handling of the faster boats which added to the enjoyment of the races.

Club Sailing

A bright and sunny Sunday morning with a cold northerly blowing, forecast to get rather strong, and temperatures not much above freezing particularly with the wind chill, saw a very limited turnout for the latest in the clubs winter series. Only Ted/Lucas in their Osprey and the Cherub of Carwyn and Igor took to the water to contest the two races. The Osprey revelled in the conditions but, as the wind increased the Cherub found it increasingly hard going. The autumn sunshine helped and, if upright, helped keep everyone warm. It was an Osprey Cherub one two in both the races (run by Jaime) before heading to the shore just as the wind piped up to the forecast 20+ mph.

Junior report

A great spooky evening was enjoyed by all who attended the Junior (and parents) get together last Wednesday. A slightly late Halloween party was organised last minute due to many of the youngsters being away for half term. There was suitable scary food, decorations and film to entertain everyone. A popcorn machine was well received.  Thanks to all for organising.

Next meeting will be the junior party on Friday Dec 9th at 7pm.

Club Sailing

Six boats rigged to go sailing last Sunday in the latest two races of the Club`s winter series. Unfortunately Max and Harri found they hadn`t brought their life jackets so they didn`t actually make it onto the water! Three Ospreys and a Scorpion did however and they enjoyed two races in bright sunshine and a light variable northerly run by Jon. In the first Peter/Igor in the Scorpion picked the shifts on the first beat and reached the windward mark in the company of the faster Ospreys. They continued downwind and took the win on corrected time by some margin. In the Osprey battle the lead changed hands a couple of times but Jaime/Griff got the final beat right and they took second from Ted/Lucas.

The second race followed immediately. Jaime/Griff and Peter/Igor were marginally early at the start so had to bear off, then found they couldn`t cross the line because of the strong outgoing tide. Chaos ensued, avoided by Ted/Lucas, who took a significant lead, and the win on corrected time from Peter/Igor then Jaime/Griff. Fourth in both races were Alistair sailing in perfect harmony with his daughter Robyn. Well done to them.

Juniors

Club Xmas party. 7.30pm. Sat December 17th. By popular demand music will be provided by Max who played at the 80th party and the return of Lewis James, bright young entertainer fresh from his first professional gig at the Club dinner last week!

Club Dinner and Prizegiving. Ninety five members and guests enjoyed the annual club dinner dance last Friday, held once again at the Giltar Hotel, Tenby. A top quality meal was followed by the raffle then prize giving and then dancing to Loose Change into the early hours. Much fun and merriment, and quite a bit of wine too! Lots of different prize winners, too many to mention, save for overall cruiser winner Denny Young, and overall dinghy, Ted Lewis and Lucas Boissevain.

Club Sailing

At last a “Goldilocks” day, after a number of weekends with either too much wind or not enough, we finally had a race where the wind was “just right”; a steady force 3 to 4 south easterly. Five boats contested both races with Huw and Carwyn Owen having a first run out in their Cherub dinghy. A somewhat steep learning curve for them in this challenging boat. Ioan Thompson also took part in a Laser, choosing a 4.7 rig and was perhaps a little underpowered. Ted Lewis being otherwise engaged generously allowed Lucas his crew to take his Osprey out and he teamed up with Igor. It was Igor’s first sail in an Osprey and he had to quickly learn a few new skills such as trapezing and spinnaker handling. The honours however in both races were shared by Dan and Conor in their RS400 and Jamie and Griff in their Osprey, with Lucas coming in third in both. Dan took the first race and Jamie the second in a tactical race at which Jamie took every opportunity to “stuff up” Dan. In the first race

Griff, Jaime`s crew, fell out of the boat after bearing away at the 1st windward mark then had to pinch like crazy with the spinnaker up to make the mark by inches. Just a shame they were on plane as they passed the gybe mark. By the time they headed in the right direction Dan had passed and Lucas was threatening!

In the second race Griff swung to the bow when they hit the back of a wave with the spinnaker up, but managed to stay in the boat, and they went on to win!

Junior report

No sailing now until next spring but a reminder about the social get together on Wed Nov 2 at 6pm.  The theme for the party will be a late Halloween night. We are sure most will have some fancy dress, Pumpkins, etc left over so please bring them along. Prizes for the best dressed youngsters, parent or family! We hope to show a suitable spooky film and possible fun witch hunt around the club. However fancy dress not obligatory so please come along anyway.

Plate of food as usual please.
