Fran's Big Adventure

Day 22 - Lundy Island to Tenby!! Also - Dolphin Day!! Crew - Richard Barker. Weather - nice. Date - Saturday the...5th June 2010.

Early wake up in tent on Lundy island. Quick swim for Richard out to Viper on mooring, he brought her ashore for me to step aboard and off we went. So we didn't see so many puffins today but we did see a couple of seals as we left Lundy! Richard saw a couple of dolphins in the distance but they didn't seem too interested in us. Not a breath of wind and we were organising and eating....and then the dolphins came!! From far and wide, so many of them, jumping around vipers bow, under viper, thirty of them at a time. I took photos of where they had just jumped to have a permanent memory of what the sea looks like where a dolphin just was and Richard took some video of the actual dolphins. After ten minutes or so they got bored and frollicked away. We were both pretty tired having camped on Lundy, so took it in turns to drive and sleep. Every time I was just about to nod off....the dolphins came again! So I took some more photos of the sea, then gave up and just enjoyed the dolphins. Richard did some dolphin communications every now and then too. All good. Dolphin day!! As we neared Tenby the wind filled in, kite up. Nice. Then a yacht appeared as we were debating which of the oncoming rocks we should avoid and how, asking if I was Fran. Friends of Ben and Helen's, Ben had organised quite a reception in Tenby and we were escorted by Roly and Jane into Tenby. Mark arrived, helped us find a trolley and tractor and it was just like Clacton again. Brilliant. Then Jean, Bens mum arrived, we slowly packed up out stuff as she told us she had roast beef for us for dinner. I love Tenby! Showers, roast beef dinner, a read of the neswpaper reporting Edward's abdication in 1936, along with some advert for some nice cheap housing in very nice parts of London Town. And then down to the club for some more socialising. Tenby as ever - amazing welcome, fantastic people, great beach, looking forward to returning on my second lap!!

Fran Gifford.
